Andrew Greene and the Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra are proud to announce the completion of the reconstruction of Sissle & Blake’s SHUFFLE ALONG, and are now *exclusively* offering a concert version of the original 1921 production!
In 1921, a new musical comedy entranced New York City, making its mark on American musicals forever. Sissle & Blake’s SHUFFLE ALONG, with its jazzy, energetic score, took America by storm and became the first truly successful musical comedy written, directed, and performed by African Americans. SHUFFLE ALONG permeated American musical culture, and was revived several times – including a recent revival on Broadway.
This uplifting musical comedy about a mayoral race launched the careers of Josephine Baker, Paul Robeson, and others, and had the biggest names in American popular culture – Al Jolson, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Langston Hughes, etc – coming back night after night to hear the jazzy, syncopated musical score.
Now in 2016 the original production comes back to life in concert form, performed by Andrew Greene’s celebrated Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra, “the premier American ragtime ensemble” as hailed by the Washington Post. PRSO and our singers bring this American treasure back to life, performing the sparkling instrumental and vocal hits originally penned by Noble Sissle & Eubie Blake off of the original pages, including I’m Just Wild About Harry, Love Will Find A Way, In Honeysuckle Time, and more!
